Blauwhuis Castle

Blauwhuis Castle in Izegem is a lieu de mémoire whose historical roots reach deep into the 16th century. The original tenant farm was converted into a huys van plaisantie by the Bruges van Huerne family in the 18th century . Noblemen stayed there temporarily to entertain themselves with pastimes such as hunting, tea-drinking and pleasant conversation. A playhouse was also used to forge or maintain business relations.

HISTORY AND EVOLUTION

The last noble residents of Castle belonged to the Gillès de Pélichy family in the 19th- and 20th-centuries and were closely associated with the welfare of the town of Izegem. The story concerning the castle has today started a new chapter in view of the new spatial development. The castle as well as the accompanying coach house were restored in close cooperation with the heritage department. The most innovative interventions were deployed to sustainably meet today's stringent environmental and climate requirements. For instance, a proven air purification system was implemented and geothermal heat pumps provide renewable energy. The surrounding greenery, too, will soon be brought to its former and lush glory.
